Kopalnia Brzeszcze

In Brzeszcze, Poland, stands the former double-shaft installation III/IV of the historic Brzeszcze coal mine. This impressive twin shaft was constructed in the period following World War I, when the Polish state heavily invested in its mining infrastructure. The installation served both for coal extraction and ventilation and played a key role in the mine’s expansion between 1918 and 1923.

Although the shaft has been out of use for many years, the striking structure with its tall steel headframes still towers over the site. Surrounded by old conveyor belts, machinery, and industrial buildings, it stands as a silent reminder of the time when thousands of miners descended underground each day. Located just south of the still-active part of the mine, the site remains clearly visible from public roads. A fascinating piece of industrial heritage, deeply rooted in Poland’s mining history.
