MOSAREF S.A. (Blue Tower), Seraing
Usine Mosaref was an industrial facility located in Seraing, at the heart of the historic Liège steel basin. Built around 1961, the plant specialized in the processing and recycling of carbon-rich by-products from the steel and coke industries. The facility produced materials such as synthetic graphite and other industrial raw materials that could be reused within heavy industry.
Thanks to its distinctive tower, the complex became a well-known landmark in the region. Mosaref was closely linked to the surrounding steel industry, which for decades was dominated by the large blast furnaces of Seraing. As steel production in the area gradually declined from the 1990s onward, the factory also lost much of its economic importance.
After operations ceased, the site remained abandoned for many years. Its iconic tower attracted photographers and industrial heritage enthusiasts, who gave the location the nickname Blue Tower. The industrial landmark ultimately disappeared when the tower and the remaining structures were demolished in September 2021.
