Berghuizer Papierfabriek Energiecentrale
The power plant of the Berghuizer Paper Mill in Wapenveld was once the technical heart of the entire industrial complex. As part of a modern combined heat and power system, the facility generated both electricity and steam required for the paper manufacturing process. When the paper mill permanently closed in 2008, it marked the end of nearly 170 years of paper production at the site.
Following the closure, large sections of the factory were demolished, but the impressive power plant remained standing for several more years. As one of the last major structures on the site, it served as a visible reminder of Wapenveld’s industrial heritage. Eventually, the power plant was also demolished, bringing the final chapter of the Berghuizer Paper Mill to a close and erasing one of the last landmarks of this once-important Dutch paper factory.
