Georgian Space Initiative

Hidden in the forests near Cemi, close to Borjomi, lies one of Georgia’s most mysterious Soviet-era relics. Known as the Georgian Space Initiative or the Institute of Space Constructions, the site features enormous steel rings mounted on rails, a watchtower, and several abandoned buildings.

Very little is known about the facility’s original purpose. Based on its name, it is believed to have been connected to space-related or engineering research, but almost no official documentation has survived. It may have been used to test large structures or experimental technologies, though this has never been officially confirmed.

Due to the secrecy surrounding Soviet scientific projects and the loss of many archives after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the true purpose of the complex remains largely unknown. Today, its mysterious history is what makes this forgotten site so fascinating.
