Zeche Monopol Schacht Grimberg 1/2
In the German town of Bergkamen once stood Zeche Monopol – Shaft Grimberg 1/2, a key part of the Ruhr area’s industrial past. Coal mining began here in the late 19th century, and by the 1970s the site had been modernized with a striking welded steel headframe a rare design for its time. After the mine’s closure in the 1990s, Shaft 2 was preserved as an industrial monument. Today, parts of the site have been repurposed, but the iconic headframe and engine house remain as silent witnesses to an era of hard labor, engineering, and lost glory.
