VEB Chemiekombinat Bitterfeld
For many years, the Synthesewerk factory stood along in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. It was a key part of the former VEB Chemiekombinat Bitterfeld, one of the largest chemical production complexes in East Germany (DDR). The factory mainly produced synthetic resins, base chemicals, and ion exchangers vital components used in plastics, coatings, and the pharmaceutical industry.
The site featured impressive industrial infrastructure, including pipeline systems, massive production halls, and towering chimneys. After the fall of the DDR, the factory was shut down, and the area was largely left to decay. Today, within the grounds of the modern Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen, the Synthesewerk zone remains a silent witness to its industrial past.
