Abandoned Rail Shed of a Thousand Tennis Balls

This large rail shed was once used to store and service steam locomotives. Trains were sheltered inside the building, with tracks running directly into the hall. When steam traction was phased out, the depot lost its purpose and the site was gradually abandoned.

The building has been standing empty for more than thirty years. Over time, the former rail shed turned into an informal storage space for discarded materials and waste. One of the most striking remnants is the vast number of tennis balls, stacked in metal cages and scattered across the floor. It appears they were collected for recycling, but the process was never completed. What remains is a strange and unfinished scene, where industrial history and abandoned recycling meet.
