Santuario della Vergine dei Colli

Hidden among rolling hills stands a vast religious complex that once served far more than quiet devotion. What began as a sanctuary grew over time into a self-contained world of faith, discipline, and learning. Alongside the church and cloister, classrooms were added, corridors filled with student voices, and knowledge became as central here as belief.

The complex later functioned as a religious school. Large classrooms line the upper floors, while a fully equipped science laboratory and a gymnasium point to structured, modern education. A substantial library once held shelves of books used for study rather than worship alone, reflecting the site’s role as a place of instruction and formation.

As the decades passed, religious vocations declined and the school closed. The final students left, the doors were locked, and silence returned. Today, the sanctuary, monastery, and school stand abandoned together  a rare combination of sacred architecture and educational spaces, slowly reclaimed by time, yet still clearly revealing the many lives once shaped within its walls.
