Schacht Sandbochum & Schacht Lerche

Schacht Lerche and Schacht Sandbochum were auxiliary coal-mining shafts in Hamm, developed in the early 20th century as part of the Ruhr mining network. Both sites mainly served ventilation, transport, and logistical support for nearby collieries rather than functioning as independent production mines.

As mining operations were rationalised after the Second World War, the importance of smaller shafts declined. By the second half of the 20th century, both Schacht Lerche and Schacht Sandbochum were taken out of service. Surface installations were largely dismantled, and the areas were later redeveloped, leaving only limited physical traces of their industrial and mining heritage.
