Open-Air Swimming Pool

Once one of the region’s most popular outdoor swimming pools, this large recreational complex welcomed thousands of visitors every summer. Built in the late 1940s, it quickly became a favourite destination for families, swimmers, and sunbathers. The site featured a full-size competition pool, several leisure pools, a children’s pool, water slides, spacious sunbathing areas, and a variety of sports facilities.

During the 1980s, the complex underwent a major renovation. The pools and surrounding buildings were modernised, and solar collectors were installed to help heat the pool water an innovative feature for its time. For many years, the facility remained a lively meeting place and an important recreational centre.

Over time, however, rising maintenance costs, declining visitor numbers, and ownership issues involving parts of the property made it increasingly difficult to keep the complex operating. Without the necessary investment, the swimming pool eventually closed its gates for good.

Since then, nature has slowly reclaimed the site. The pools have dried out, the water slides stand silent, and the changing rooms continue to deteriorate. Years of vandalism and theft have stripped away much of the technical infrastructure, making any restoration an expensive challenge. Although several redevelopment plans have been discussed over the years, none have been realised.

Today, the abandoned swimming pool serves as a striking reminder of a place that was once filled with laughter, activity, and summer memories. Overgrown pathways, weathered concrete pools, and decaying buildings now create a unique atmosphere, illustrating how quickly even the busiest recreational destinations can be reclaimed by time and nature.
