Muskator Düsseldorf
Along the banks of the harbor in Düsseldorf once stood the imposing factory of Muskator-Werke GmbH. Founded in 1911, the company grew into one of Germany’s largest producers of animal feed, with an annual output of up to 550,000 tons under brand names such as Muskator, Ovator, and Ovator PegaPlus. The site housed several production halls for livestock, pet, and horse feed and was a key part of the harbor’s industrial landscape.
In 2013, operations suddenly came to a halt when Muskator declared bankruptcy, leaving the vast complex to fall into disrepair. What remained was an impressive collection of abandoned silos, rusty conveyor systems, and overgrown loading docks.
The city of Düsseldorf later took over the area with plans for future redevelopment. Although many of the original structures have since been demolished, parts of the site still stand as silent witnesses to the bustling industrial giant that once operated there. In the future, the location may become part of a new urban development project that connects the area’s industrial heritage with the modern cityscape of the harbor.
