Elektrociepłownia Miechowice

In the Miechowice district of Bytom, Poland, stood one of the country’s largest power plants: Elektrociepłownia Miechowice. The plant was constructed between 1950 and 1954 on the foundations of an earlier German facility from World War II. It became fully operational in 1955, generating over 220 MW of electricity and later supplying district heating to the surrounding region. Over time, it grew into a true giant of Poland’s energy sector. After decades of operation, the power station was officially decommissioned in 2019. Shortly thereafter, demolition work began.
