Langerbrugge Power Station

The Langerbrugge Power Station is a former coal-fired power plant located near the port of Ghent, Belgium. Built in the early 20th century, it once played a crucial role in supplying electricity to the region’s growing industrial sector. The plant was expanded over the years and became a prominent example of early industrial architecture, with its massive turbine hall, towering smokestack, and steel-framed windows.

After decades of service, the power station was decommissioned in the 1980s. Since then, it has stood abandoned its machinery removed, but its imposing shell still intact.

Production rose significantly during this period of renewal. Nevertheless, the efforts were not enough to ensure long-term survival: the mine was permanently closed in 1969.
