NMBS/SNCB Liège Kinkempois

In the Belgian city of Liège, in the Kinkempois district (Angleur), lies one of the most remarkable railway complexes of the NMBS/SNCB. Known as the Kinkempois depot, this site was first put into service in 1883 as a maintenance workshop and shunting yard for locomotives. For many years, it played a central role in Belgium’s freight transport network, with extensive facilities for both diesel and electric locomotives.

In 2018, this changed significantly. The NMBS opened a new, modern traction workshop on the same site, fully equipped to maintain contemporary locomotives and long train sets. Since the opening of this new facility, the old workshops, locomotive sheds, and administrative buildings have been decommissioned. These abandoned sections featuring dozens of tracks, rusting equipment, and decaying structures now stand silent and forgotten.
