Fábrica de Fiação e Tecidos
This former textile factory was once an important employer in central Portugal. Inside the large industrial complex, yarn was produced and fabrics were woven for the Portuguese market. During its peak years, generations of workers from nearby villages were employed here, while the production halls operated day and night at full capacity.
From the 1980s onward, the Portuguese textile industry faced increasing competition from cheaper foreign production. The factory gradually lost its economic importance and production declined significantly. Eventually, most of the complex was shut down and parts of the site became abandoned.
Today, large factory halls and industrial remains are still visible across the site. The complex stands as a silent reminder of a time when the textile industry played a major role in the region’s economy.
