The Durobor glass factory in Soignies, Belgium, was founded in 1928 and quickly became a pioneer in automated glass production. Its name, “Dur-O-Bor,” referred to the hardened rims that made their glasses durable and unique. Over the decades, Durobor grew into an international brand, exporting to more than 80 countries and becoming famous for its heavy-based glasses with the signature bubble. Despite its success and iconic designs, financial troubles led to bankruptcy in 2019, and by 2020 the factory stood silent.
