Fabbrica tessile di calze Niga
The textile factory Nigacalze S.p.A., known under the brand name Calze Niga, was founded in 1952 by entrepreneur Agostino Gazzaniga and his son Giovanni Gazzaniga. The company started as a manufacturer of stockings and socks and gradually grew into an established name within the Italian textile industry.
In 1970, a new factory was built to expand production. A few years later, in 1974, the company was reorganized into a joint-stock company (S.p.A.). During this period the factory produced a wide range of textile products, including socks and tights for men, women, and children, using materials such as cotton, linen, silk, and cashmere.
The factory operated both under its own brand name and through licensed production for other brands. Among its products were socks made for several well-known football clubs as well as children’s brands. One notable development was the use of silver fiber in textiles, a technology intended to provide antibacterial properties and improved temperature regulation.
Like many European textile manufacturers, the company faced increasing international competition from the 1990s onward. Much of the production of socks and clothing gradually moved to countries with lower manufacturing costs, which weakened the economic foundation of many traditional textile factories.
Eventually the company ceased operations and the factory was left unused.
