Cementi Alta Italia

The site of today’s Gabanon was once part of the cement industry that made Casale Monferrato one of Italy’s most important cement-producing cities. The factory was established in the early twentieth century by Fratelli Palli, Caroni e Deaglio and benefited from the rich limestone and marl deposits found throughout the region.

In 1957, the plant was acquired by Cementi Alta Italia. As the facilities aged, cement production was gradually reduced during the 1960s, and by 1965 the site was mainly used for grinding and packaging cement. In 1979, the complex became part of Buzzi Cementi, after which industrial operations slowly came to an end. The site continued to serve as a distribution center until 1995 before being permanently closed.

After years of abandonment, the former factory entered a new chapter. Beginning in 2018, parts of the industrial complex were demolished while several historic structures and industrial features were preserved. Today, the site has been transformed into a recreational and sports complex. Although its purpose has changed completely, the remaining buildings still reflect the area’s industrial heritage and its important role in the development of Northern Italy’s cement industry.
