Chiesa dell’ex Ospedale

The Chiesa dell’ex Ospedale is the last visible remnant of a former hospital complex in Garbagnate Milanese, established in the late 19th or early 20th century. At that time, healthcare institutions were closely linked to religious and charitable organizations, making a dedicated chapel a standard part of such facilities.

The church served for religious services and spiritual support for patients and staff. Its architecture is sober and functional, reflecting its role as an institutional chapel rather than a parish church.

During the second half of the 20th century, the hospital lost its function and most of the complex was demolished. The church was preserved as the only surviving structure, losing its original purpose in the process.

After redevelopment of the site, the former chapel became part of today’s Parco Pubblico “dei Salici”, where it now stands primarily as a historical and symbolic reminder of the city’s medical and social past.
