Jakobsburg-Porzellan

Jakobsburg Porcelain originated around 1887 in Arzberg, Bavaria, where Christoph Heinrich Schumann established a porcelain factory beneath the Jakobsburg castle. Thanks to its favorable location near the railway, the company grew rapidly. In 1891, Theodor Lehmann took over the factory and expanded production.

Later, the factory became part of Porzellanfabrik Schönwald AG, and from the 1930s onward, the Arzberg brand gained international recognition with designs by Hermann Gretsch, such as the famous Form 1382 tableware.

Around 2000, production in Arzberg ended and was relocated to Schirnding. After financial difficulties, the company went bankrupt in 2013, and Rosenthal GmbH acquired the brand. Since 2024, the Arzberg name has officially been discontinued, though many of its classic designs continue under Rosenthal.

Today, the name Jakobsburg Porcelain mainly recalls the original factory beneath the Jakobsburg the birthplace of Arzberg’s porcelain heritage.
