Gasthof Erbgericht

Along Dorfstraße in Clausnitz, right next to the church and the Heimathaus, there once stood a striking building known as the Gasthof Erbgericht. For centuries it served as a central place in village life, where people gathered to eat, to celebrate, and to share important events.

The heart of the building was the large hall with its tall windows, arched ceiling, and stately chandeliers. Here, theater performances and film screenings took place, but also village festivals, dances, and political meetings during the GDR era. The stage with its heavy curtains and the wooden dance floor still tell of the times when this was the setting for the village’s shared moments.

After German reunification, the Gasthof slowly lost its significance. It fell into decay, and parts of the interior collapsed. Photos and eyewitness accounts speak of damp patches on the ceiling, mold creeping along the walls, and a stage that could no longer hold. The building, once a vibrant hub, had become a silent witness to a bygone era.

In June 2020, demolition began. With it, a piece of lively village history disappeared, though the memory endures in stories and photographs.
