Zeche / Bergwerk Prosper-Haniel Shaft 4

In Bottrop, Shaft 4 of the former Zeche Prosper II was an important auxiliary shaft within the coal mining complex of the Ruhr region. Constructed in 1892, the shaft was primarily used for ventilation and the transport of personnel. With a depth of approximately 786 meters and a diameter of around 3.5 meters, Shaft 4 was part of the expanding mining infrastructure that transformed the region around the turn of the century. In 1974, Shaft 4 became part of the larger Prosper-Haniel mine, but it was decommissioned shortly after, around 1976. The mine itself remained active until its final closure in December 2018, when the last coal was extracted.
