Blast furnace / Vysoká pec 6

Vysoká pec 6 is one of three preserved blast furnaces in the former industrial heart of Ostrava. Built as part of the historic Vítkovice iron and steelworks, this furnace played a key role in the production of pig iron for decades. The factory, founded in 1828, grew into one of the most important industrial complexes in Central Europe. In 1998, the blast furnaces were permanently shut down, marking the end of an era that spanned more than 160 years.

Since then, the site has been recognized as a national cultural monument and is part of the Czech Republic’s tentative UNESCO World Heritage list.
